  • IT'S OPEN: I-70 through Glenwood Canyon reopened to traffic
    GLENWOOD SPRINGS - Interstate 70 through the Glenwood Canyon reopened about 3 p.m. this afternoon.
    The Colorado Department of Transportation had been working on getting one traffic lane in each direction open on through the canyon since a rock fall closed the road early Monday morning.
    Crews were able to open the interstate to one lane in each direction with a 14-foot width restriction, and speeds are reduced to 40 mph through the canyon.

  • I-70 detour is making Steamboat a busy town
    STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado - Over-the-road trucks rumbled through Steamboat Springs in greater numbers than usual Tuesday afternoon, but civic leaders were looking out a month to the scheduled repaving of Lincoln Avenue/U.S. Highway 40.
    The major highway that runs through Ski Town USA was designated one of two detours for Interstate 70 this week in the wake of a large rock slide that closed the four-lane highway in Glenwood Canyon. The slide occurred at about midnight Sunday.

  • Aspen officer's employment ended on conflict issue
    ASPEN - Valerie McFarlane's employment as an Aspen police officer ended last month after she failed to file charges against an Aspen newspaper editor for allegedly drinking and driving, officials said.

    Instead, McFarlane, who was on work-related probation at the time, gave Aspen Daily News Editor Troy Hooper a ride to a residence on the outskirts of downtown during the early morning hours of Feb. 19.

    GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - Heath Johnston sat hunched over, hanging his head, as he listened to a recording of his interrogation with Rifle Police Lt. J.R. Boulton, which occurred hours after he allegedly shot his brother, Sam Johnston, 26, on Dec. 15, 2008.

    FORT COLLINS - A second-half rally lifted Olathe's girls basketball team to a 40-25 win over Coal Ridge in the Great Eight round of the Class 3A state playoffs on Thursday.
    Despite the defeat, the Titans' stay at Colorado State University isn't over. They'll play either Holy Family or Brush at 11:45 a.m. Friday in the eight-team state tournament's consolation bracket.

  • UPDATE: CDOT hoping to have I-70 lanes reopened today
    GLENWOOD SPRINGS - Colorado Department of Transportation geologists returned from the rock mitigation site on Wednesday evening and were satisfied with the work that was accomplished.

    According to a news release Wednesday night, CDOT officials are expecting to open traffic lanes later today through Glenwood Canyon.

    Crews blasted the rock they were concerned with and there was a clean break from the slope. All the rocks that officials were concerned about were knocked down from the area above Interstate 70.

    As a result, mitigation work will not be required...
