  • Glenwood Springs scraps special election for downtown library site
    GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - There is not enough time to get all the details worked out to set up a December special election for the city to sell off property for a new downtown library, Glenwood Springs City Council has concluded.
    However, city staff will meet with representatives from the Garfield County Public Library District and the Downtown Development Authority within the coming week to lay out some other options.

  • Glenwood Meadows to receive affordable housing credits for income restricted rental units
    GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - The city will allow credits for income-restricted rental apartments at Glenwood Meadows to be used toward the developers' overall affordable housing requirement, City Council agreed at its Sept. 2 meeting.
    However, the Meadows' most recent bid for federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits was denied by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority. So developers Robert Macgregor and Mike Maple must now work with the city to come up with acceptable guidelines for the rent controls.

    NEW CASTLE, Colorado - For the second time in eight days, smoke filled the air south of New Castle and a mobile home was destroyed by fire.

    Garfield County Public Health is providing dental fluoride varnishes for children ages 1-12 years old. Fluoride varnish is "painted" onto teeth as a protective coating that helps prevent cavities (and helps stop cavities that have already started). \
