Tri-Glenwood Triathlon returns to area Sunday
The Tri-Glenwood Triathlon and its uber-loyal following turns 26 years old this Sunday.
Some 352 starters, a total that includes 40 teams, get their day started with an 825-meter swim at the Hot Springs Lodge pool. From there, competitors head west for a 15-mile bike ride out to Canyon Creek and back and then transition at the Hot Springs parking lot before heading out for a five-mile run along the River Trail.

Garfield County Sheriff candidates spar over department spending
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - Former sheriff Tom Dalessandri calls into question current staffing levels in the Garfield County Sheriff's Office since Lou Vallario took over eight years ago, saying he would trim what he sees as administrative "fat."

Recycling upgrades spur greater participation in New Castle
New Castle residents are now recycling more following changes to the town waste hauling contract this past spring.
Herman Aardsma, operations manager with Mountain Roll-offs Inc (MRI) in Silt that handles the town waste contract, said his company is tracking increases in both recycling participation and volumes of collection. A former Aspen couple are reeling from the loss of their Belize house and crocodile sanctuary, which were burnt to the ground Sunday morning by an angry mob of villagers.
Sunday's rampage was reportedly instigated by approximately 100 indigenous Mayans, who stormed the property of Cherie and Vincent Rose while they were away.
